Christmas in Cape Cod 2007

Kevin and I went to Cape Cod to celebrate Christmas with his family. I'd met his mother and brother before but he was waiting to propose before he brought me to the big family Christmas.

His mother lives in an apartment attached to her friends Dave and Dolores's house, so we had Christmas Eve dinner with them and their son, also named Kevin) and wife Monica.

On Christmas we went to his grandparents' house for some traditional Chinese food. His mother's side of the family is Grandpa Buff, Grandma Ruth, Kathy, Aunt Nesie and her husband Steve (not pictured), Aunt Mary, Uncle Dickie, Kevin, Andrew and cousins Katie and Chris.

The day after Christmas, we went back to Dave and Dolores's for a family engagement party. Kathy's family was there again, as well as family from Kevin's side, and Kathy and Dolores's book club.

Since my grandparents also live on Cape Cod, about an hour away in Truro, we went to go visit them the next day.

Casey and Victoria's Wedding 2007

Casey and Victoria got married on the beach in Cape Cod!

Casey and Victoria's wedding on the beach

Casey and Victoria met seven years ago on her birthday in September of 2005. He was performing in his band, and she was there to see the show. That's a pretty cool beginning. Two years later, they were married on the beach in Cape Cod not too far from where Casey grew up with Kevin. Victoria walked down a sandy aisle to Casey, where they were married right in front of the ocean.

Casey's best man was his brother, Victoria's maid of honor was her best friend, and their dog Toby was there for both of them. The ceremony was small and very warm and intimate, with readings by friends and a speech by Casey's dad.

The reception was in a restaurant right off the beach. It started with their first dance a champagne toast. And oh do I love a cake-cutting, since it means yummy cake is on the way!

One of my favorite parts of the reception was that they had close friends perform wonderful live music. Such a nice personal touch, and even nicer than hiring a band.

Boston, MA 2006

Ever since I first went to Boston for the Fourth of July in 2000, I have maintained that Boston has the most creative firework-shapes. The fireworks and Boston Pops concert on the banks of the Charles River are famous. I also had time to hit a few more popular spots in Boston including a (not-pictured) delicious cannoli in the Italian North End.

Salem, MA 2006

Salem is such a fun town. It's probably perfect for older kids and um, me. Much of the city's tourist attractions reflect that it was the location of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Also, a lot of the local culture also addresses it: Police cars are adorned with witch logos, a local public school is known as the Witchcraft Heights Elementary School, the Salem High School football team is named The Witches, and Gallows Hill, a site of numerous public hangings, is currently used as a playing field for various sports.

Tourists know Salem as a mix of important historical sites, New Age and Wiccan boutiques, and kitschy Halloween or witch-themed attractions. The most recent (and controversial) addition of significance is a bronze statue of the Samantha Stephens character (played by actress Elizabeth Montgomery) of the Bewitched television program in Salem's Lappin Park on June 15, 2005.
