Salem, MA 2006

Salem is such a fun town. It's probably perfect for older kids and um, me. Much of the city's tourist attractions reflect that it was the location of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692. Also, a lot of the local culture also addresses it: Police cars are adorned with witch logos, a local public school is known as the Witchcraft Heights Elementary School, the Salem High School football team is named The Witches, and Gallows Hill, a site of numerous public hangings, is currently used as a playing field for various sports.

Tourists know Salem as a mix of important historical sites, New Age and Wiccan boutiques, and kitschy Halloween or witch-themed attractions. The most recent (and controversial) addition of significance is a bronze statue of the Samantha Stephens character (played by actress Elizabeth Montgomery) of the Bewitched television program in Salem's Lappin Park on June 15, 2005.

Cathy Visits Charlottesville Again 2006

Cathy came back this weekend. She got here early on Friday, so I did a half day at work and I took her around Charlottesville. We spent most of the weekend partying with my law school friends and she got to meet Sarah, Donald, Josh, and Jon. Good times!

Jefferson's Monticello 2006

Becky and Brandon invited me to go to Monticello yesterday with them.

Monticello was Thomas Jefferson's plantation, and Jefferson designed the main house. Monticello is just south of the Rivanna Gap. A lot of the of what you see when you walk around the property is the history of the slaves who lived on the property.

Got My Driver's License! 2006

Finally got my license for the first time on today at 27 years of age! About 10 years after I should have gotten it. Thanks to all the people that gave me driving lessons- 1 or 2 at a time. And thanks especially to Alec that lent me his car today so I could take the test. You're brave and awesome!
